Delivery story 331

I've been delivering for Papa John's in Hattiesburg, MS for a few months now. About a month ago, I had a delivery to a relatively nice part of town. The address was 516 Southern Ave. I was driving down the street and all the houses had little signs with the house number on it at the end of the driveway. I was pretty excited because I could actually see which house was which. As I approached my stop, the signs disappeared. The last one was 512 so I skipped the house next to it and assumed the next one was 516.

The house wasn't lit very well but there was a hallway light on. I knocked on the door and waited a few moments. The hall light suddenly turned off. I got a weird feeling but, after doing this for a little while, you come to learn that people do weird stuff. After a few more seconds I heard a shotgun cock. I was stunned for a moment wondering if I was about to get shot. I gathered my senses and announced I was from Papa John's. The guy yelled, "Who is it?" I repeated I'm from Papa John's and he replied, "We didn't order pizza. Which house you lookin' fer." I said 516 Southern Ave. His wife piped up and said, "That house don't exist anymore." I apologized and returned to the store.

About fifteen minutes later the guy from 516 called and asked about his pizza. I explained that I went to the wrong address and was informed that his house didn't exist. (I didn't mention the gun.) He said it was next door to the big white house, the one I was at earlier. I apologized and took him his pizza. I then told him the story and he didn't act too surprised. I guess he knows the people pretty well. He tipped me 12 dollars and apologized for his neighbors.

I would expect some crazy gun toting hillbilly outside of town but not in the middle of downtown. Anyway, I got a good tip and kept my life so I feel pretty good about it.
