I work at an Extreme Pizza location in the CA Bay Area.
After reading all these stories I just wanted to share a couple that stick out from my time in the pizza business.
There was a guy who had been staying at a local motel for probably about six months and ordered pretty regularly. He was a middle-aged, short, overweight guy who, of course, was in a smoking room, and never tipped. (You know, the kind of people you expect from a motel.) He calls one day and I answer to take his order. He requests a ham and swiss sub, and I tell him we don't make custom subs. He has to choose from one of our predetermined options. (All of our subs have cheesy puns for names.) So I'm listing them off asking which one he wants, and he just keeps telling me, "All I want is ham and swiss. Just give me ham and swiss." So I just pick one of the subs and remove everything (mayo, lettuce, tomato, etc.) except the ham and swiss.
Since the motel is literally a block away from us I tell him it won't be long. Apparently, though, the driver who took his order (another guy was up, not me) on a double waited to take his order second, so he calls at least three times complaining it's taking too long and to hurry up. The driver comes back and a couple minutes later we get a call from him and I answer and he's irate. He's cursing me out telling me this is the worst f%cking day of his life and how is he supposed to eat this sh%t? It's just f%cking cheese and meat and bread. I tell him that he very clearly stated all he wanted was ham and swiss and that I had asked him if he wanted one of our signature subs with all the fixin's. He just continued to deny it saying it wasn't his fault and that I was an idiot.
Anyways, we brought him an Individual pepperoni pizza just to shut him up, but I'll never forget how big of a douche he was, and how he claimed it was the worst day of his life. We have since had recurring issues with this guy.
The next one was a lady who ordered to the Best Western next to our store. The hotel address was right and the room was 239. Only problem was the rooms only went to 237. So I walk around the whole second floor making sure I didn't miss it. The order was online so I figured maybe she put the wrong room # on accident so I called her. She just says, "I don't know what you want me to do about it. I'm on the second floor in room 239," so I tell her I'll walk around again and check. Again nothing. So I call her back. Now she's pissed. She's like, "What you want me to do, yell? Alright, 'PIZZA, WHERE YOU AT! I'M OUTSIDE MY ROOM! ROOM 239!'" and continues to yell into the phone and tells me to hurry up she's hungry.
At that point I go to the front desk to see if he can direct me. I tell him what's going on and he's like, "Yeah, we don't even have a room 239 here," so he calls her. Turns out she was in the Best Western two towns over about 20 miles away yet she put the address for the Best Western near my store. She then asks if I'll bring it to her anyway. I just laughed and told her not a chance. The front desk guy laughed and apologized that I had to deal with such a dumbass and told me he knew what it was like.
I have plenty more stories but these ones are already long enough. Keep on fighting the good fight fellow drivers.
