I deliver for Pizza Hut and tonight I got screwed big time. I live in a college town and a new student housing complex was having their move-in/grand opening today and they wanted a lot of pizza for the students as they moved in.
They placed an order for 160 pizzas and it totaled up to almost $900. I was sent out on the delivery and spent over 4 hours taking some of the pizzas there, going back to the store and loading up, then taking some more. Oh, and I started taking them all when my shift was supposed to have ended so I got to stay over 4 hours late. When it was all over I was expecting a nice tip but instead I got nothing at all.
When I got to the place on my last trip their main office was closed and I had 17 pizzas that I didn't feel like dragging back to work especially when I knew they would just be trashed. So I put the bags on top of my car, opened them and started giving them away to anybody that wanted them. One of the security guards took a few of them and he knew the place didn't tip me so he gave me two dollars. It wasn't much but at that point I wasn't going to complain.
So for over a 4-hour delivery I made a grand total of two dollars. What hurt was thinking if I had been doing normal deliveries for that whole time I would've made a ton due to it being a busy Saturday night. =(
I didn't include what town I'm in since some places are anal about that stuff. Even though this story doesn't reflect negatively on Pizza Hut, and since I still work there, I'd rather be safe and would like to keep my job. =)
