Delivery story 408 FDivvensSr writes: Our Domino's Pizza location is right off the exit on I-75 in Ruskin, Florida. We deliver to a vast area. Our map covers areas that are 25 miles round trip in areas. This one day I had to deliver a 3 for $5.99 each order, to an area far away, and known for lousy tips AT BEST. When I knocked on the door, I either startled the couple on the couch, or interrupted them, or woke them up. Anyway, the young man, not too fluent in English, asked how much...like every customer does, even if they know. It was $22.47. The gentleman reached into his pocket and without looking, grabbed everything in that pocket and handed it to me in a big crumbled ball, took the order and shut the door. I went to the car as I always do and proceeded to count it before I left. He obviously knew the total, and the amount he was giving me was $22.50, but what he didn't realize is that he put that money in the wrong pocket ON TOP OF 9 FOLDED-UP 100 DOLLAR BILLS!! Yes, I received a $900.03 tip!! In his state of mind that he was, I was a bit startled, but not shaken up, because I knew what I was going to do. I sat a few minutes, wrote down my delivery info on my pad, counted everything else again, change too. After I realized that this guy is not coming back out, and that he doesn't know what he did, I went up to his door, knocked on it and when he opened it, I handed him the $900 and said, "I'm sure you didn't mean to give me a $900 tip." So how did he thank me for returning to him his month-long paycheck? He thanked me by saying, "Oh sorry. My bad. Didn't mean to give you all that," and he shut the door. $900!!! He would have never known what happened to it, and even if he assumed he gave it to me, there is no proof, and all I got for my honesty was a "Sorry, my bad." I've been delivering pizza for 12 years now, and I've come to the conclusion that people who don't tip, mostly are not to blame. I blame it on their upbringing. Gratuity is not something you know; it's something you're taught. I have to look at it that way, or I'll hate everyone! lol
