Delivery story 403

Walker writes:

About nine years ago I used to deliver for Domino's in the quaint little craphole city of Rock Springs, WY. I've probably forgotten more about delivering pizzas than most people will ever know, but this story still manages to confuse me nine years later.

It was a fairly typical night. Dark and kinda cold, I was on a delivery to one of the large trailer courts that pass for housing developments in this place. To say that it was the bad part of town is kind of a misnomer; there isn't a GOOD part of this town to begin with. In any case, I spent a few minutes looking for the address on the ticket. It's at the end of a dead-end row near the top of the court, and it's the only trailer with any lights on within 500 feet.

So I hop out of the car and haul the two pies up to the door and knock. And wait for a minute. A 40ish woman finally answers the door. Looking confused, she says she hasn't ordered any pizza. Now, this was before I ever dreamed of getting a cellphone. I had no way of calling the number on the ticket myself, so I asked the lady if I could kindly use her telephone for a minute. She said yes and stepped aside so I could enter--this is against store policy usually, but under the circumstances I felt it was justified.

I called the number on the ticket, and got no answer. After calling the store, I decided to head back and punch the order up as bad. I thanked the kind lady who let me use her phone and apologized for bothering her, and was on my way. All was seemingly well, until I got back to the store.

When I arrived, my manager pulled me aside and told me that the woman had called while I was on my way back, claiming that I forced my way into her house. I told the manager that this was completely ridiculous. If she hadn't allowed me to use her phone I would've just driven back to the store without calling. He knew since I'd done it before.

Regardless, I -still- got written up for it, for reasons that are completely beyond my comprehension. So not only did I waste a good 20 minutes of my time and the gas it took me to get out there, I also got no payment for the delivery, no tip, AND a write up for no goddamned reason.

To think that I stuck with pizza delivery for a further three years after that boggles me. Reading the horror stories on this site has done nothing but infuriate me and remind me why I gave up on it in the first place.
