Delivery story 381

I have worked for Domino's pizza in Albuquerque, NM for about 18 months and I really like the job. You get to meet so many interesting people.

There is a customer we deliver to who stiffs about 99.99% of the time. She is very friendly so I usually don't mind. I figure she probably doesn't have the extra money since she is an elderly woman. I am saying this because I know my grandmother struggles just to get by. Sometimes she has to skip buying groceries in order to buy her much needed medication so I understand. All the other drivers at the store always talk bad about her and hate to deliver to her. She ordered about once a week most of the time. Sometimes the other drivers try to skip her run and take another run that they know tips well.

This time it was a fairly large order ($67 to be exact) so like usual they were arguing about who was gonna take the her run. I said, "Don't worry about it. I'll take it." And I grabbed her order and walked out the store. When I arrived at her house she was trying to wrangle up her dogs that somehow got out of the yard. I left the pizzas in the car and ran to assist her with the dogs. She was very grateful and when I gave her the pizzas and read out her total of $67 she reached into her purse and handed me a one hundred dollar bill and said to me, "Son, you're always so nice every time you come by. Listen. I want you to take this $100 and keep the change."

I felt like it was very generous but didn't want to accept the $33 tip that she was offering. I told her, "Thanks but I cannot accept that much as a tip. It just wouldn't be right." She said, "Son, I insist. I just won $10,000 on a lottery scratch ticket and I want to share my winnings with you." I accepted that tip, thanked her about ten times and drove off with a smile from ear to ear.

Moral of the story. Be nice to every customer every time. You never know.
