Delivery story 374

Pizza Paws writes:

Call me Phil. I work at a Domino's in a southwestern suburb of the Twin Cities.

At the tail end of the rush, I was assigned a single to the far end of the area. The order was 30 minutes old when I left, so it was set to arrive at 42 on a 40-45 quote; all was well. Until a semi and an SUV tried to change lanes, at the same time, in the same place, at 65 mph, 1000 feet in front of me. I'm not going to run away from an accident in which an SUV rolls SEVEN TIMES and lands on its side. The occupants turned out OK, thank God, though they were shaken and slightly bloody. But this, and my witness statement to the sheriff, took up a good 25 minutes.

When I finally got to the door, I began to explain what had happened, and all the couple seemed to care about was whether I was OK. Apparently, they'd (totally reasonably) called the store at around 50 minutes and inquired as to the whereabouts of their order. Bob had informed them that "Phil's a very diligent driver" (which I am) and that "something strange must have happened." (Thanks for the defense, but way to panic the poor customer!!!) I offered to have their small cheese pizza remade and sent back out, but the husband examined it and pronounced that 30 seconds in the microwave would make it absolutely fine. And tipped me a solid $3.73. On a small cheese pizza.

Way to restore my faith in humanity!
