Before I begin my story, let me begin by saying I'm not a PIZZA delivery driver. I'm a delivery driver for a sandwich place. Think of a Jimmy John's but a little different. My job is really no different than a pizza delivery driver, the only difference is that I deliver sandwiches instead of pizzas. I rely on tips as part of my income just like you guys do.
Anyway, on to my story.
The other day my store received a huge catering order from a medical firm down the street for a big lunch meeting that afternoon. Their bill was roughly $265.00. Let me repeat: two hundred sixty five dollars.
Not only did I deliver their food on time, but I was offered absolutely no assistance in carrying it inside the office. I had to go out to my car four separate times to get everything.
On top of that, I HELPED THEM SET IT UP. I set up the plates, napkins, salads, sandwiches. Everything.
I got a $10.00 tip. And yes, I am grateful that I even received a tip, but the reason I'm a little distraught is that it was a completely disproportionate tip when compared to the bill.
Think about it. A medical firm, with a room full of DOCTORS (rich people) who order a QUARTER-THOUSAND dollars worth of food, have it delivered ON TIME and SET UP FOR THEM, and I got a 3.77% tip.
Once again, I am grateful for the $10.00 because at least it was something, but still, I feel a bit cheated on that one.
