Little kids really can make your night. Three in particular stick out in my mind.
I was delivering to a relatively nice neighborhood that was fairly far from the store but was full of decent tippers. I showed up at the house in a timely manner and a teenager who was clearly the kids' babysitter handed me the cash which had been left for her to pay for the pizza. I don't remember how much I was tipped, but I do remember the little girl (three or four years old) who described to me in awe just how pretty my hair was and how excited she was that tomorrow she got to go see her grandparents and stay for TEN WHOLE DAYS!
Not long after that, I was delivering to an apartment complex where I was greeted by a little boy at about the same age. He walked outside the apartment and looked up at me with wide eyes. He asked, as though nothing in the world would amaze him more, "Can I come with you?!"
Probably my favorite, though, was a little blonde girl who peeked out from behind her father, saw the pizza I had handed him, and cried, "You brought PIZZA! Thank you! THANK you!"
It's always heartening to hear little kids exclaim in joy when the pizza has arrived, as though you were the savior of their night.
