Australian delivery girl writes:

I'm a delivery girl (it's not just guys who do this job!) for Pizza Hut in Victoria, Australia.
I delivered to an elderly man who lived in a two-level house. When I arrived, he was sitting on a balcony on the top level of the house and he waved at me to get my attention. He then asked me to come inside his house, walk up the stairs, and deliver him his pizza on the balcony. I told him that I wasn't allowed in his house (which we're not) and that doing what he asked would be a significant breach of policy.
He absolutely exploded. He cracked a massive tantrum, screaming, "I'm just an old man! I can't get down the stairs! How dare you treat me like this!" I'm just a young girl, and entering his house would be unsafe and stupid. Especially with him behaving like this! I was terrified. I tried calling my store for advice, but the line was engaged. I was freaking out. I tried to reason with the guy, explaining that it wasn't personal and that I simply wasn't allowed inside his house.
He launched a massive tirade of sexism at me, and starting complaining that women were ruining his life. With me standing on the driveway close to tears, he called my store (successfully!) and tried to complain about me. My manager told him in no uncertain terms that I wasn't to enter his house, and that if he wanted the pizza he'd have to come down the stairs.
Eventually he did, all the while threatening me with legal action.
Needless to say, he was promptly banned from Pizza Hut.
Tipping is not customary in Australia, but we need it just as much as you guys. We go through all the same awful rubbish as American delivery drivers!!
