I was delivering to the "Richard Allen Court" tenements several years ago when I had a distressing delivery experience.
When I arrived there was a herd of black peeps, encircling a couple of black females, who were pulling weaves and slapping each other repeatedly. I parked and set out on my delivery, hoping that the person who had ordered was at the apartment. When I got to the door a little black girl answered, with tear tracks on her face. She looked up at me with soft brown eyes and wept. "Mommas outside fightin'." I gave her a soda pop, and we went downstairs to wait for momma to finish getting her ass kicked.
The poor little girl leaned on me, and I put my hand on her shoulder. (I have kids. This totally was breaking my heart.) And we watched her mom get bodyslammed into the pavement. The crowd howled, the little girl pulled me close and cried. After the crowd dispersed, the truly ghetto momma came up to me and said, "Sorry you had to wait, but that skanky bitch called me a ho, and I ain't no HO!" I gave her the pizza and her drinks. She stiffed me but I figured she probably couldn't afford to tip. I told her, "You're setting a hell of an example for your daughter," and I left.
