Delivery story 275

I work for Papa John's in Burke, VA. During the first major snowstorm last year, the roads were unplowed and unsalted for about 5 hours while the DOT scrambled to help us out. There were accidents at every intersection and people just stopped on every incline because people in Virginia don't know how to drive in snow.

I took a delivery to the furthest point in our delivery area, about 6 or 7 miles away. It only took me about 40 minutes to get there, even in the incredibly bad conditions. We had quoted a delivery time of 2 hours but it was there in just under an hour. The guy even asked me about the roads and I told him how awful they were. It took me about an hour and a half to get back to the store because that way was uphill. I had my car in Park for about 45 minutes because there were cars stuck in both lanes and I just couldn't go anywhere.

I got back to the store over 2 hours after leaving with that order and I only got $1.50 in a tip. It was the most degrading, insulting tip I have ever received, and after I had told the guy how terrible conditions were. Plus, it was a credit card tip so it wasn't like it was his last $1.50.

I've been stiffed thousands of times but this stings way more. I went above and beyond to bring this guy his pizza when more than half of my co-workers had called out and I was left feeling like I had just been completely taken for granted. That was the lowest experience in my 7 years on the job.
