I work at Round Table Pizza in Sacramento and been a driver for more than a year. I really don't like to recall any of my bad stories. In fact, there are too many of them which I tend to forget as fast as I can.
This is the worst one that happened to my friend who is also a driver. One night, he drove to an abandoned house not knowing it was a prank call to set him up. Once he got there, he rang the bell and nobody answered. He knocked, nobody answered. So while he reaches for the phone to call the customers, four men in masks approach him from the back. He was terrified but did nothing. He was trapped and couldn't run. They asked for his money and he refused to give it to them. (I would!) They hit him in the head with a rock and stole his phone, all his money, his wallet, and many of his belongings from inside his car. He was happy that they didn't steal the car. (It was an old Accord.) He came back to the store with his face and shirt covered in blood and his pockets inside out shocking everybody in the store. The police couldn't find any evidence.
There are a lot of risks a driver takes. Here are some I have personally experienced in different occasions:
- Car accidents.
- Robbery.
- Attacks from violent people (both on the road and in person.)
- Flat tires. (I did twice.)
- Prank orders. This wastes your gas going to places and realizing the address doesn't exist.
- Blamed for late pizzas even if it's not the driver's fault.
- Dealing with stupid/crazy/racist/impatient people, and being subject to their bs.
Please tip the driver! at least for all these risks he/she takes on each delivery run!
