Delivery story 237

I work at a place that doesn't give gas money to drivers, and also doesn't have a delivery charge. We‘re a mom and pop shop for sure. It's total BS how some people don‘t tip and it‘s mostly blacks that don‘t tip, but also people that live in the trailer park. Either way, when I don‘t get any tip, I lose money on those deliveries.

I've worked at the same place for two years without having anybody complain about my service, because when i get stiffed I keep my cool until I get in my car and drive off and then I vent in my car, "Goddamn cheap mother F!" I will complain to the other drivers about it if I'm getting a lot of stiffs. When I get to somebody's door, I always say either, "Hi. How's it going?" or, "Hi. How ya doing?" I'm always nice and personable regardless of their outward appearance. When I get a tip, I say "Thanks. Have a good night!" and when I get stiffed I either say thanks and walk away or sometimes (1 out of 25) I don‘t really say anything to them. The only time I just walk away is when somebody is giving me an attitude.

I had an unpleasant encounter with a black 18-20 year old girl the other day that almost got me fired. I had to call this girl to get directions because I work in an area where all the streets are numbered and her address could have been in several different neighborhoods. Well, she was really unpleasant on the phone. When I got to her apartment, she came down and met me in the lobby and started giving me the stink-eye right away. I said "Hi. Did you order a pizza?" She goes, "mmmmm hmmmm."

So I told her the total and, low and behold, she hands me exact change plus two cents. I hand her the order and walk away.

That is the worst kind of order and there is no way I should have to say thank you to somebody who is rude on the phone, rude in person, gives me a dirty look, and then stiffs me.

I got back to the store and my manager asks me, "What was up with that delivery? That girl called and complained about you." I said, "Nothing really," because i didn't want to say that she was black and she stiffed me and she was a b---h to me. That was that, as far as I was concerned. But no.

The next day I go into work on my day off and my boss informs me that I am fired because of my actions and attitude. I was totally caught off guard by this. As far as I know, nobody has ever complained about me before. And I remained professional while this girl was giving me an attitude. Which, as we all know, is hard to do. I talked to my boss and eventually he agreed to let me continue working there if I worked on being nicer to the customers, which I felt was ridiculous because I'm always decent to people and I never make any rude comments or act aggressively towards customers. Not even drunk belligerent a-----es.

So I got to keep my job.

Later that night I found out through the grapevine that the girl I delivered to that day had called in and said that I threw a crumpled up 5 dollar bill in her face when she asked for change! This is total BS and I would never do something like that to a customer while I'm working. This girl almost got me fired and I guarantee she got a ton of free food because she lied to my manager about what happened. I'm so pissed about the whole situation because I don‘t feel like there‘s anything i can do to regain my bosses trust but I'm definitely going to talk to him and tell him that the girl was lying.

He was ready to fire me on the spot for the complaint and wasn't even going to ask me for my side of the story! And it never even happened. Remember the girl gave me exact change, so there was no way in hell I was going to waste my money by throwing it at her.
