Delivery story 213

Old Pizza Guy writes:

My story is from Saturday, December 23. It had been an absolutely awful night for tips and deliveries as the owner had too many drivers working, expecting a busy night that didn't materialize. I delivered an order to a guy for $14.99. Straight away I wasn't expecting much in the way of tips 'cos it's soooo easy to just give $15.00, but I wasn't ready for what the customer said to me. It (almost) knocked me sideways. This is what ensued.

I handed him the order and said most politely, "That'll be $14.99, please." He handed me $15.00 as I had expected, but then came the killer punch. He said, "Don't bother with the 1-cent change. You can keep that as a tip. Well after all, it is Christmas, isn't it?"

My reply was, "Thank you very much. Your generosity knows no bounds," and then I laughed.

Somehow, I just had to look on the bright side, otherwise I could have gotten very upset. The guys in the store just couldn't believe that someone could be so unkind and so upfront about it, too.
