| The most aggravating things about
being a driver
22. No house numbers.
This is when there is a large area of houses
with no numbers that can be seen from the street. It makes the driver search
for the house on foot.
-
When this happens, we don't know which
side of the street the house is on. We can't even tell which block number
we're on. Sometimes the block number remains the same after an intersection.
We don't know how the address numbers increment. House numbers can increment by two,
four, eight, ten, or even by half a number. There's no way to tell. Some
blocks count by two and then suddenly jump to counting by four in the
middle of the block. We really need house numbers as a reference. We don't
know where the counting begins. Some blocks start at zero. Other blocks start
at two, four, six, or even 98. There's no way to tell. If one side of the
street has a number, the house on the other side may not be the next number.
For example, 18 may not be across from 17. It could be 4 or 24.
-
With no house numbers, the driver is
in a bind. It may take 10 or 15 minutes to hunt down the right house, knocking
on all the doors.
-
Of course, all this is unnecessary if
people would just put house numbers where you can see it. If the pizza guy
has a hard time, imagine how bad it would be for an ambulance driver. We have more experience
in this area because we deliver far more often. Could the ambulance find
your house quickly if you had an emergency? See how to display your address
number for more information.
