A local pizza chain here, Imo's, came up with St Louis style pizza in the 60s. It is thin crust with provel cheese and cut in squares. Our pizza hut also sells a st louis style pizza and most of the other big pizza chains offer them too. I was just wondering if this type of pizza is popular anywhere else, or if it is even available. I personally do not like the pizza, the provel cheese is really gooey and sticks to the roof of your mouth. anyway, i was just curious if this is a local thing. alexshidoBoard NewbieJoined: Jan 2005Posts: 99 3/16/05 7:11:00 AM I've never heard of such a thing. ~Fernandina Beach, Florida--Okay, whenever you're ready, just take your time getting up off of the table... blonde one Delivery TycoonJoined: Nov 2004Posts: 7748 3/20/05 12:04:56 PM Our DP, in So. Cal serves thin crust with the "usual" cheese, cut in squares, sprinkled with oregano. I remember when I first started, some b---h called up, after delivery, SCREAMING that her thin crust was cut up in bitty pieces so she couldn't eat it, AND had oregano all over it! OMG!!--"One run an hour? Oooh, Oooh. Are you trying to kill us? We always outsold the local Imo's. The difference was that we used an even mix of provel, american and mozzarella cheese and didn't add sugar to our sauce. Today I travel around the country on my job and to answer your question, yes, you can get STL style pizza in a few cities (or at least a reasonable fascimile)though it's not nearly as common as New York or Chicago style pizza. There are a few places here in Los Angeles that serve STL style pizza but it's not the real deal as they omit the provel entirely. Also, Cecil Whitakers has branched into Kansas and Nebraska and some folks I know there tell me they are doing quite well with their STL style version. The nice thing about delivering STL style pizza was that the pies were light as a feather and the customers who were willing to pay the inflated cost were generally decent tippers.--Hey Stiffer, enjoy your sausage & pepperoni with ex-laxtra cheese...just kidding return to top
